Originally launched in 2014 the Activatar App used image based augmented reality to host monthly shows on top of the New York City Metrocard and other ubiquitous public accessible imagery. The app is being completely overhauled and is now in development slated to be relaunched in Fall 2017.
The New ACTIVATAR will be an engaging and robust smartphone based public art project, aiming to activate the world around you through a range of new media artwork.
The app itself will service as a public art platform offering a range of new ways to engage the public at large with new media art and artists. The application will have projects ranging from dynamic augmented reality, virtual reality, videos, audio based projects, and videos games. The app will have three main sections for artist projects: augmented and virtual reality, video, and video games. Each section will showcase monthly exhibitions by artist chosen from by our curatorial committee.
